The Mono­type solu­tion to one-off, lar­ger let­ter­press types

Where the com­pos­i­tion caster was designed for con­tinu­ous texts, this machine was designed for those essen­tial but one-off bits of work.  While the machine could not be driv­en by punched tape, the range of products went well bey­ond the com­pos­i­tion caster and included –

  • Type, spaces, bor­ders and orna­ments from 4½pt to 72pt
  • Leads and rules of between 1pt and 18pt
  • Strip bor­ders at 6, 8, 10, 12 and 18pt
  • Clumps and dashes of 9 to 16picas
  • Fur­niture in 24, 36, 48, 60 and 72point
  • Quo­ta­tions in these sizes (picas): 6 x 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2; 5 x 5, 4, 3 and 2; 4 x 4, 3 and 2

Accessories

While this is a Jack of all trades machine, there were still a small num­ber of attachments –

  • Air Blower: to cool the matrices used
  • Fur­niture Trim­mer: to remove any imper­fec­tions from the fur­niture mould
  • Thin space cut­ter: this bench-top device was to cut thin spaces from strip material
